Kanye West is standing by the anti-abortion comments he made during his first presidential campaign rally in South Carolina.

West took to Twitter on Friday (July 31) — about two weeks after breaking down in tears on stage in Charleston while revealing that he and wife Kim Kardashian considered aborting their daughter North — to restate his feelings about the controversial topic.

“I cried at the thought of aborting my first born and everyone was so concerned about me,” the 43-year-old rapper and fashion mogul wrote. “I’m concerned for the world that feels you shouldn’t cry about this subject.”

He added that more than “22,500,000 black babies have been aborted” during the past 50 years.

In another tweet, West wrote, “There is a tactic of 4 D’s”: distract, discredit, dismiss and destroy. “I am quite alright,” he added. “Take a second to think about what is being projected here.”

West announced his intentions to run for U.S. president in 2020 on Fourth of July. Two weeks later, he held his first campaign rally, discussing such topics as the healthcare system, gun control, supporting the LGBTQ+ community and, of course, abortion.

“My dad wanted to abort me. My mom saved my life. There would’ve been no Kanye West because my dad was too busy,” West told the S.C. crowd, crying as he went on to say, “I almost killed my daughter.”

Shortly after the rally, West posted a series of now-deleted late-night tweets aimed at his wife and his mother-in-law, Kris Jenner. Days later, Kardashian released a public statement addressing her husband’s bipolar disorder. West later apologized to Kardashian for discussing personal family matters at his rally and on social media.

“I would like to apologize to my wife Kim for going public with something that was a private matter,” he tweeted on July 25. “I did not cover her like she has covered me. To Kim I want to say I know I hurt you. Please forgive me. Thank you for always being there for me.”
